2009 Writing Roundup

I’m naming 2009 my “digital maturity year” because it was in the last 12 months that I fully embraced social media as a worthwhile source of support for my writing career.

With 2010 in sight, I thought it’d be interesting to put together a (fairly) comprehensive list of the projects I’ve worked on this year.

If you’d like to learn more about any of these or the kind of freelancing services I offer, send me an email at minogue dot sean at gmail dot com. You can also check on what I’m currently working on by clicking on the “Current Projects” tab above.

Of course, there are a number of projects not listed here — some of which I can’t/shouldn’t talk about yet. Keep an eye out for more details on those in this space over the coming months.

Screenwriting

- After many months of outlining, writing, and rewriting, Adam Zang (Cole) and I completed writing our feature-length heist script and are eagerly preparing to bring it to market. It’s called “Cold War Portrait”.
- With a few good friends, I wrote and co-produced a short film for the Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon competition.
- I was contracted by Telefilm Canada to analyze feature screenplays in development.

Development
- Early in the year, I consulted on a miniseries project about Sir Fredrick Banting — the Canadian discoverer of insulin.
- Through a colleague’s recommendation, I was contracted to work with an independent producer to develop an original animated series for kids. (More details to come on this in the future!)
- Delving further into the world of new media, I co-developed an audio podcast series with the eponymous lads at BobandAndrew.com.

Social Media/Online Writing
Joined Twitter; over 300 contacts to date and growing (followers is such a dirty word).
- With the indispensable assistance of Veni Vini Vici, I launched SeanMinogue.com in November after three months of blogging through WordPress’s main site.
- Developed online branding copy and a company mission statement for a local athletic clothing brand startup.
- I joined the Marketing department at Vancouver Film School as a Writer in March. This is when my social media and copywriting education really began.

Entertainment Journalism
- I had the following articles published in The Georgia Straight:

Canadian TV heats up the winter season
Aboriginal Peoples Television Network’s Spring Season Features Fresh Voices
Digital comics come calling on mobile phones
New Crop of Canuck TV Series Ripe
“BC Screenwriters Struggle

Playwriting
- My first play, “Prodigals“, went into development with Twenty-Something Theatre and came out the other side looking twice as strong and ready for a spring 2010 production. Peter Boychuk will direct; Sabrina Evertt is producing.

Big thanks to my co-conspirators, blog readers, and supporters of all kinds for a great year of writing.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
